If you want to make a difference, now is the time to stand up.” After the rally in the rotunda, supporters moved to the capitol steps for a morning filled with musical performances.

>>LT. Gov. Flanagan Receives AG Ellison’s Endorsement for Senate

(St. Paul, MN) — Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan is receiving dozens of endorsements for the U.S. Senate, including from Attorney General Keith Ellison. Flanagan is running for the 2026 open seat that Senator Tina Smith is leaving behind. Ellison says Congress needs leaders in Washington “who have the guts to stand up and fight, and Flanagan has never backed down from a fight.” Multiple northern representatives, county commissioners, mayors, and more have backed Flanagan, too. Governor Tim Walz says he won’t endorse a candidate at this time but may do so after the primary. Walz notes that prior governor Mark Dayton didn’t endorse him, “and it was better that way.”

>>2nd UMN Student Detained by ICE

(Mankato, MN) — ICE has detained a second University of Minnesota student. Minnesota State University-Mankato President Edward Inch announced today that the arrest happened Friday at an off-campus residence. Inch says the circumstances behind it are unknown, and ICE has shared no details with the university. The student is an international graduate at the Carlson School of Management. This came one day after a UMN student was detained in the cities.

>>Man Sentenced to Nearly 40 Years for Killing a Mother Holding a Toddler in Minneapolis

(Minneapolis, MN) — A man who pleaded guilty to fatally shooting a mother as she held her toddler has been sentenced to nearly 40 years in prison. 21-year-old Ayale Ali pleaded guilty last week to one count each of second-degree intentional murder and first-degree assault. Minneapolis Police say that on May 19th (2024), Ali shot 35-year-old Lilian Perez and her two-year-old son. Perez died, and her son, who was shot in the face, survived. Ali shot at Perez’s vehicle, which had two other children inside. They were waiting as Perez’s husband borrowed tools from his brother. Police say Ali’s phone showed he was at the scene at the time of the murder and tried to trade guns less than 24 hours after.

>>Marshall Man Struck, Killed by Vehicle

(Scott County, MN) — A Marshall man is dead after he was fatally struck by a vehicle Friday morning. State Patrol responded to the crash around 6 in Jackson Township in Scott County. Troopers say a Toyota was heading south on Highway 169, veered into the left lane to avoid a stalled car on the right shoulder, and hit a pedestrian, 25-year-old Firaol Merbratu, who died at the scene. The driver and her passenger were uninjured. Troops say alcohol was involved on the pedestrian’s part.

>>Nashua Man Charged with Conspiracy to Sell Meth

(Duluth, MN) — A man from west-central Minnesota has been charged with conspiracy to sell methamphetamine. The U.S. Attorney’s Office reports that 58-year-old Lance Wayne Anderson engaged in drug activities in and around Minnesota, specifically in Wilkin County. Anderson, who resides in Nashua, southeast of Breckenridge, has made his initial court appearance in federal court in Duluth. The Drug Enforcement Administration, the State Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and the Wilkin County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation.

>>Man Accused of Vandalizing Cybertruck in Costco Parking Lot Facing Felony Charges

(Fargo, ND) — West Fargo Police say felony charges are pending against a Fargo man accused of vandalizing a Tesla Cybertruck in the Costco parking lot over the weekend. The owner of the Cybertruck called the police on Saturday afternoon to report that his vehicle had been keyed and that the suspect was gone. Investigators used cameras from the Cybertruck and nearby businesses to identify the suspect as 25-year-old Ryan Williams. Williams admitted to the vandalism. He faces criminal mischief charges. The vandalism came on what was called ‘Tesla Takedown Day’ when protesters demonstrated at Tesla dealerships around the country. Earlier this month, someone tried to set a Tesla supercharger on fire in the parking lot of Scheels All Sports in south Fargo. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives has taken the lead on that investigation.

>>Red Lake Felon Found Possessing Firearm

(Minneapolis, MN) — A Red Lake felon has been indicted for possessing a firearm. On September 12th (2024), 42-year-old Darrell Loud was found possessing a 20-gauge shotgun. Loud has multiple prior convictions in Beltrami County for DWI, domestic assault, and fleeing a peace officer. He’s scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday.
