(St. Paul, MN) — Former President Donald Trump will headline the state GOP’s annual Lincoln Reagan dinner tonight (Fri) in St. Paul. Republican Congressman Tom Emmer says he’s ” very grateful to the President for putting Minnesota on the map and saying I am going to give it a shot.” In the latest KSTP-TV/SurveyUSA poll, Biden leads Trump 44% to 42% in Minnesota. Emmer says this shows Trump could win Minnesota in November and points to the Trump campaign’s internal polling that shows Trump is leading in Minnesota 49-46. Minnesota D-F-L Party Chairman Ken Martin says Trump insists he “won in 2020 easily” in Minnesota, but Martin says, “Minnesotans will see through these lies and hold Trump accountable for the extreme MAGA agenda that he is trying to force on our state.”

(Fillmore County, MN) — The twin sisters charged in a fatal Amish buggy crash in Fillmore County are filing a motion to have their charges dropped for lack of probable cause. Samantha and Sarah Peterson are charged with criminal vehicular homicide in the crash that killed 7-year-old Wilma and 11-year-old Irma Miller, as well as injuring their 9- and 13-year-old siblings also in the buggy. Samantha Peterson is charged due to her being high on methamphetamine when her SUV struck the buggy, and her twin Sarah is charged after she attempted to deceive authorities at the scene of the crash by saying she was behind the wheel, not Samantha. The twins are currently free on bail and their next court appearances have been pushed to mid-August.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A 17-year-old teenager is in custody after firing a gun in north Minneapolis this morning (Friday), leading to a standoff outside a residence. The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office reported that a deputy witnessed the boy firing a gun and then fleeing into a home. Law enforcement officers secured the area with personnel and SWAT vehicles. The boy was taken into custody without incident, and no one was injured. He was booked into a juvenile detention center for reckless discharge and weapons violations.

(St. Paul, MN) — A Minneapolis man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for coercing minors to produce child pornography over social media. Court documents say in 2019, 41-year-old Nelson Harner admitted to connecting with multiple minors on Instagram and Facebook to engage in sexual activity to produce child porn, as well as possessing multiple images and videos of child sexual abuse material. Harner pleaded guilty to one count each of coercion and enticement on July 11th, 2023.

>>Alleged Distracted Driver Charged In Deadly Crash

(Plymouth, MN) — An alleged distracted driver has been charged with a crash that claimed the life of a Plymouth woman. Authorities say Pheng Yang was driving along Highway 169 last summer when he rear-ended an SUV driven by 40-year-old Cristina Restrepo. He was allegedly watching a YouTube video and setting the clock on his own vehicle after the crash. Yang was charged yesterday with criminal vehicular homicide and faces up to ten years in prison if conducted.

>>CHS Signs Letter of Intent to Acquire Ulen Cooperative

(Inver Grove Heights, MN) — CHS, the nation’s largest agricultural cooperative, has signed a letter of intent to acquire a cooperative in west-central Minnesota. CHS Executive Vice President of Ag Retail, Distribution, and Transportation Rick Dusek, says there are several reasons to move forward with Ulen-based West Central Ag Services. That includes aligning supply chains, connecting the local growers to the global marketplace, and creating more efficiencies. Dusek says, “We feel we are better together than we are apart.” He says the cooperatives have worked together on a joint venture called Central Plains Ag Services in eastern North Dakota. Dusek says CHS and West Central Ag Services will now begin due diligence on the proposed transaction, subject to necessary approvals.
