Since its creation, the office has identified more than 250 Indigenous people across the state who are missing or have been killed, based on public reports and community submissions. During the event, community members, partners, and state officials will gather to read those names aloud and honor the families and communities impacted.
The ceremony runs from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Minneapolis American Indian Center.
>Dent Woman Dies in Rollover Crash, Man Arrested
(Otter Tail County, MN) — Authorities in Perham are investigating a fatal crash that happened early Saturday morning in rural Otter Tail County. The sheriff’s office says a 40-year-old woman was ejected from an older pick-up after it left the road and rolled into a farm field. Forty-year-old Nichole Shoultz of Dent was taken by private vehicle to Perham Health but died from her injuries shortly after arriving. Officials say the crash may have occurred hours before it was reported, around 6 a.m. 30-year-old Allen Alberts of Dent has since been taken into custody on charges connected to the incident.

(Merrifield, MN) — The Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a domestic dispute Sunday night that led to the shooting of an 18-year-old from Merrifield. Deputies say the man was shot by a 72-year-old family member in Center Township and suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital in the Twin Cities for further care. Investigators say the suspect surrendered without incident and is jailed pending first-degree assault charges.
