(St. Louis Park, MN) — Steven Bailey, the man accused of drunkenly crashing his vehicle into a St. Louis restaurant last year, killing two people and injuring a dozen more, faces additional charges. For the September crash into the patio of Park Tavern, Bailey pleaded not guilty to 16 charges in December. Now, an amended criminal complaint adds three charges of criminal vehicular operation while under the influence of alcohol for three of the victims injured in the crash. Bailey is set to go to trial next Monday.

(Winona, MN) — A Winona man is dead after an e-bike vs. car crash. Winona police responded to an intersection around 8 p.m. on reports of a crash. Authorities say a 53-year-old man was making a left turn when he hit a 66-year-old man on an e-bike. The biker was pronounced dead. The Minnesota State Patrol believes vision impairment by the sun was a factor.

(Dent, MN) — A man and woman from Fargo are hospitalized with serious injuries suffered in a motorcycle crash Monday in Otter Tail County. The Minnesota State Patrol says 55-year-old Tina Moe and 58-year-old Robert Shoaf were riding on Highway 108 near Star Lake when Moe lost control of her cycle. The report says Moe laid her bike down on the roadway, causing Shoaf to crash. Both were airlifted to Sanford Hospital in Fargo with serious injuries. They were not wearing helmets.

(St. Paul, MN) — A Minneapolis man faces two counts of child pornography production. Court documents say on December 29th (2024), 37-year-old Michael Thompson drove from Minnesota to Iowa to visit a teenage minor whom he had met online. Thompson is accused of engaging in various sexual activities with the minor and inducing the victim to send sexually explicit images and messages throughout January 30th. Thompson had a detention hearing on Friday and will remain in custody pending further proceedings. The FBI asks anyone who may be or know a victim of Thompson to call the FBI Tip Line.

(Washington County, MN) — A horse in Washington County has tested positive for equine herpesvirus type 1 (EHV-1). The Minnesota Board of Animal Health says EHV-1 is highly infectious between horses and can develop into a debilitating neurological disease known as Equine Herpesvirus Myeloencephalopathy (EHM). Because the 16-year-old mare exhibited symptoms of EHM, the remaining 60 horses on the property will be quarantined for 21 days. The Board says the last case of EHM in Minnesota was diagnosed last June.

(Washington, D.C.) — The Education Department is warning universities of their obligations to support student loan borrowers as the Trump administration begins ramping up collections for those in default. The department sent a “Dear Colleague” letter to universities on Monday, saying schools with a high default rate among their alumni could lose access to federal student aid. The letter also told schools to inform students that loans not in deferment or forbearance must begin repayment by June 30th. The letter came the same day the department restarted involuntary collections for borrowers who have defaulted.
