>>Alden Township Man Killed by Tree Following Snow Storm

(Alden Township, MN) – A 69-year-old man was found dead this morning under a large tree in Alden Township in St. Louis County. The Sheriff’s Office says the man, Brian Pelander, was found by his wife underneath a large downed tree. Officials say she had left the residence for approximately 45 minutes while her husband was snowblowing their property. They say the tree gave way due to high winds and heavy wet snow. No foul play is suspected as authorities are calling this a tragic accident.

 

>>CAIR-MN Condemns Break-In at North Minneapolis Mosque

(Minneapolis, MN) – The Minnesota Council on American-Islamic Relations is condemning a break-in at Masjid Uthman on Sunday night. Surveillance video shows two masked individuals entering through a locked back door while a third waited outside. No damage or injuries were reported. CAIR-MN says the break-in comes amid escalating threats and a pattern of attacks on mosques statewide this year. The group is urging law enforcement to investigate and calling for increased security measures as concerns rise following the termination of Somali Temporary Protected Status protections.

 

>>Fargo Police Seek Person of Interest in Theft Cases

(Fargo, ND) – Fargo Police are asking for the public’s help to locate a person of interest in multiple theft investigations. Authorities say 21-year-old Jackson Mulder is linked to package thefts reported across north Fargo between November 19th and 21st. Police believe he also fled officers and used a stolen vehicle during the crimes. That vehicle has since been recovered. Mulder currently has active warrants for theft and drug-related charges.

 

>>Minnesota Joins 21 States in New Lawsuit Over SNAP Benefits

(St. Paul, MN) – Minnesota is joining 21 other states to preserve SNAP benefits for thousands of legal permanent residents. This comes as the attorney general says the Trump Administration and U.S.D.A. tried to block legal immigrants, those who have asylum, and refugees from receiving food assistance. Ellison says this decision from the administration contradicts federal law that says these groups of people qualify for SNAP benefits when they obtain green cards and become lawful permanent residents. On October 31st, the U.S.D.A. issued new guidance to state SNAP agencies describing changes to program eligibility under the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” Ellison says the states were given one day’s notice of the changes.

 

>>New DFL Positions Announced in Minnesota House

(St. Paul, MN) – Two new co-chairs have been announced by the DFL for the Minnesota House. Representative Brad Tabke from Shakopee was appointed as the new DFL co-chair of the House Transportation Finance and Policy Committee. Tabke was already on the committee. The DFL also announced Representative Erin Koegel of Spring Lake Park will now be the co-chair of the Commerce Committee. Both of these roles became available following Representative Kaohly Her winning election to become the next mayor of St. Paul.

 

>>DPS Warns Drivers, Residents to Prepare for “Drinksgiving” Tonight

(Undated) – Thanksgiving Eve has picked up names like ‘Blackout Wednesday’ and ‘Drinksgiving,’ highlighting its reputation as one of the biggest nights for bars and homecoming gatherings. Mike Hanson with the Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety says plan ahead and be that sober ride that saves someone’s life. He says, “It’s a gift that has no cost, but it will and does save lives. So far this year, 342 people have died on Minnesota roads. Between 2020 and 2024, there were 668 alcohol-related driving deaths in Minnesota and 1,926 serious injuries from alcohol-related crashes.

 

>>Bentleyville USA Closed Wednesday Night Due to Storm Damage

(Duluth, MN) – The Bentleyville Tour of Lights in Duluth is closed tonight due to damage from last night’s snowstorm. Significant damage to displays was caused by continued wind gusts reaching 45 miles per hour. Officials say the site will remain closed while crews work to assess and repair the impacted areas. They say they will do everything possible to be open Thanksgiving night. Bentleyville USA opened for the season last weekend.

 

>>103rd Birthday of Peanuts Creator and Minnesota Native Charles M. Schulz

(Santa Rosa, CA) – Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz was born on November 26th, 1922, at home in Minneapolis. Schulz grew up in St. Paul and always wanted to be a professional cartoonist. He began his career with the comic strip Li’l Folks in 1947, and he redeveloped it into Peanuts in 1950. The comic strip featuring Snoopy and Charlie Brown remains one of the most popular in the world. The Charles M. Schulz Museum is celebrating his 103rd birthday today.
