(Champlin, MN) — The Champlin Park Rebels are mourning the loss of their goaltender, 16-year-old Max Akerson, who died Tuesday after a lengthy battle with cancer. Akerson was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer in 2021. His mom shared on social media Tuesday that Max “collapsed in his dad’s arms” at 10:20 a.m. and is now “free from pain and suffering.” The Champlin Park High School Boy’s Hockey Facebook page posted a memorial for the teen at the Ice Forum. Rebels’ rival, the Andover Huskies, called on social media for everyone to leave a hockey stick on their porch in memory of Max.

(Rochester, MN) — An Eyota man is in custody after Olmsted County authorities served two arrest warrants. 28-year-old Andrew Zavala is tied to an alleged gun sale in March 2022 and a hotel theft this fall. The criminal complaint says that in 2022, an informant bought a semi-automatic pistol from Zavala during a controlled buy in 2022. Zavala was banned from owning or selling firearms after a conviction in a 2016 felony burglary case. This year, Zavala is accused of stealing from and damaging three vending machines on two trips to a Rochester hotel, once on September 27 and again on October 5. The damage is estimated at over $15,000.

(Pine Island, MN) — A Pine Island man faces four charges involving child pornography. Olmsted County deputies say the investigation into 67-year-old Randy Hoberg began last year after tips came in concerning suspected child sexual abuse material (CSAM) being uploaded to Reddit. A September search of Hoberg’s home and devices turned up 130 videos and 120 images of CSAM, one of which involved an adult sexually abusing an infant. Hoberg admitted to possessing and sending the material to others. He’s scheduled to first appear in court in January.

(Minneapolis) – Minnesotans driving for the Thanksgiving holiday are seeing lower prices this year for hitting the road. In Minnesota, AAA (Triple A) says the average price for regular unleaded is 2.88 a gallon. That’s almost ten cents cheaper than this time a year ago. If you are traveling in the Upper Midwest, Iowa has the lowest average at 2.74 a gallon. It’s 2.83 a gallon in Wisconsin and slightly higher in North and South Dakota.

(Fargo, ND) — A homeless man is in custody and accused of robbing two Fargo, North Dakota, homes Tuesday. Police responded to two calls north of downtown Fargo around 9 p.m. Victims reported a man broke into their homes, brandished a gun, and fled. The SWAT team was called in, and around 4:30 a.m. this morning (WED), suspect 33-year-old Manuel Perez was arrested. No one was injured. Perez is charged with two counts of robbery.
>>St. Cloud Man in Custody, Charged with Assault in October Shooting
(St. Cloud, MN) — A St. Cloud man is in custody relating to a shooting incident that severely injured a man last month. Police say on October 19, 26-year-old Lara Puok allegedly shot the victim in the back outside of an apartment building following an argument. Puok fled and was wanted until his arrest on Monday. The victim was brought to a hospital with a spinal cord injury affecting the use of his legs. His condition is unknown. Puok is due in court in January to face charges of first-degree assault with a gun causing great bodily harm and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon.

Someone has to win because the Kings have lost four straight. On the ice, the Wild are in Buffalo for the night before Thanksgiving. They’ll be looking to end their two-game losing streak in the game against the Sabres.
