(Douglas County, MN) — A 26-year-old man is in custody pending drunk driving charges for an early Thanksgiving incident in Douglas County. Deputies responded to multiple 911 calls around 3:30 a.m. of a wrong-way driver on I-94 near Alexandria. A vehicle was heading west in eastbound lanes. Officials pinned the vehicle and arrested the driver, whose BAC was three and a half times over the legal limit.

(Lakeville, MN) — A Minnesota man currently imprisoned for a fatal car crash faces a 21-year sentence for sexually assaulting two juvenile girls. 23-year-old Alejandro Saavedra pleaded guilty to causing a high-speed crash in April 2022 in Burnsville. The crash killed 16-year-old Sydney Kohner and injured two passengers. In February 2023, Saavedra was charged with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. A 14-year-old girl in Lakeville, who was friends with Kohner, said Saveedra had offered her drugs for sex. A 13-year-old girl in Farmington had similar allegations. Saavedra pleaded guilty to both charges.

(Rochester, MN) — A Rochester man faces 12 felony counts of tax fraud. The Minnesota Department of Revenue began investigating 41-year-old Stephen Stensrud in July 2023 after an anonymous tip noting he had not filed tax returns for the past six years. The MDR found Stensrud opened several personal bank accounts, depositing over $2.4 million from 2018 through 2023, to evade tax liability. He owes more than $315,000 in taxes, penalties, and interest. Stensrud is due in court in January.

(Undated) – If the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission signs off on it next year, CenterPoint energy rates could increase. Spokesperson Joshua Solis says homeowners would pay an extra $3.97 on an average monthly gas bill to “provide an opportunity for us to continue to invest in our system to benefit our customers and our communities.” Solis says the agreed-upon amount is less than half the increase originally sought by the company.

(Undated) – More school buses powered by propane take kids to class in Minnesota. Dave Wager, Executive Director of the Minnesota Propane Association says they have close to 1,200 propane-fueled buses, 1 in 10 school buses, across the state. He notes these buses have a very low operation cost in affected school districts and lower emissions than diesel buses. First Student just added propane buses to serve the Anoka-Hennepin School District.

(Madison, WI) — The Golden Gophers whooped the Wisconsin Badgers 24-7 this afternoon to take back possession of Paul Bunyan’s Axe. Quarterback Max Brosmer passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another; running back Darius Taylor had 32 rushes for 134 yards; and wide receiver Daniel Jackson had six receptions for 68 yards. The Gophers will make their 25th bowl appearance, destination TBD.
