(Rosemount, MN) — Two people are dead and one injured after a head-on crash in Rosemount Monday. Dakota County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash around 3:30 p.m. on County Road 46. An eastbound Ford Fusion tried to pass a semi-truck in a no-passing zone as a Lincoln MKX entered the west lane. Both cars swerved and collided. Both drivers, 15-year-old David Rojas and 81-year-old Dennis Dahlstrom, died at the scene. A 78-year-old woman who was a passenger in the Lincoln suffered critical injuries and was brought to a hospital.

(Hennepin County, MN) — After nearly 30 years in prison, Jerome Nunn, a man previously sentenced to life in prison, is asking to have his sentence shortened. This is the first use of the 2023 Minnesota Prosecutor-Initiated Sentencing Adjustment Law (PISA), which allows prosecutors to request sentence adjustments where the interests of justice or public safety are no longer served by imprisonment. Nunn entered prison at 19 years old for the murder of Abduel Poe and the attempted murder of John Holmes. Prosecutors believe Nunn has transformed himself in prison, receiving his GED and three associate degrees, becoming a minister, and working at EMERGE Community Development to help other convicts find work when released back into society. Poe’s mother supports the request and has advocated for Nunn’s release for the past 10 years. A judge will ultimately decide whether to grant the state’s request.

(Douglas County, MN) — A Douglas County home is a complete loss after a fire this morning. Authorities responded to the scene around 10:45 a.m. on County Road 10 after the homeowners inside noticed a fire on their attached deck near the hot tub. The fire quickly spread throughout the house. Everyone inside made it out, and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
>>CA Man Wanted for Trading Sexually Explicit Images with Rochester Minor
(Rochester, MN) — A California man is now wanted after allegedly trading sexually explicit images with a Rochester minor. An arrest warrant for 24-year-old Dabid Padilla of Los Angeles was filed Tuesday, claiming he had a long-distance relationship with a 10- to 11-year-old girl, discovered in May 2023. A family member of the victim found messages between the teen and Padilla, noting they talked at least 20 times per day by Facetime and Instagram. Padilla is accused of sending the victim multiple phones, painkillers, and other gifts to the victim’s neighbor, who relayed the packages to the victim. He is not in custody as of last night.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A North Dakota felon has been indicted for fentanyl trafficking. Beginning in February 2023 and ending around April 21st, 2023, 45-year-old Jake Noland Northern, a.k.a. “Jake Noal Northern,” conspired with others to distribute fentanyl across Minnesota and surrounding areas. Northern made his initial appearance on October 8th and is detained pending trial.
>>12 Million Pounds of Meat, Poultry Products Recalled Due to Possible Listeria Contamination
(Washington, D.C.) — A nationwide recall of meat and poultry products potentially contaminated with listeria has expanded to nearly 12 million pounds and now includes ready-to-eat meals sent to U.S. schools, restaurants, and major retailers. The recall includes prepared salads, burritos, and other foods sold at stores including Costco, Trader Joe’s, Target, Walmart, and Kroger. The recalled foods can be identified by establishment numbers “51205 or P-51205” inside or under the USDA mark of inspection. Listeria infections typically cause fever, muscle aches, and tiredness and may cause stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. Symptoms can occur quickly or for up to 10 weeks after eating contaminated food. The infections are especially dangerous for older people, those with weakened immune systems, or who are pregnant.

(Ortonville, MN) — Governor Tim Walz announced today that the 2025 Minnesota Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener will be held in Ortonville. The Big Stone Lake Area Chamber of Commerce applied for its community, and Ortonville was selected through a process considering available hunting land, travel, tourism, and community support. Ortonville is on Minnesota’s western border, about midway between the north and south boundaries, boasting over 25,000 acres of public hunting land. The event is scheduled for October 10–11 (2025).

(Wadena, MN) — Wadena-Deer Creek High School has canceled the rest of its varsity football season because too many players have gotten hurt. Head coach Kyle Petermeier notes a huge issue is that those who aren’t injured are all 9th or 10th graders. He said as the team worked through the middle of the season, the injuries started to pile up. Petermeier says despite this setback, he believes the Wolverines’ future is “very bright” and they’ll be prepared next fall.
