>>Identities Learned Man in Fatal, Non-Fatal Shootings in Kandiyohi County

(Minneapolis, MN) — The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office has released the identities of those involved in two shootings yesterday. 25-year-old Ameer Matariyeh of Minneapolis is in custody after a shooting in a Minneapolis apartment building. Officers learned the apartment was of his ex-girlfriend and her current partner. No one was injured. Matariyeh left Minneapolis before officers arrived, fleeing to Kandiyohi County. He shot and injured 25-year-old Peter Mayerchak of Lake Lillian in rural Kandiyohi County and fatally shot 55-year-old Jerome Skluzacek of New London, MN, near Willmar. Mayerchak is in stable condition and expected to survive.

 

>>West Fargo Man Found Guilty of Wife’s 2023 Murder

(Fargo, ND) — A West Fargo man has been found guilty of murdering his wife, Sonja Moen. 32-year-old Spencer Moen pleaded not guilty last October but was convicted anyway, allowing the jury to consider a charge of murder or negligent homicide. Moen was arrested in August 2023 after reporting his wife fell asleep in the bathtub and was unresponsive. An autopsy showed Sonja had died of blunt force trauma to the head and at least one broken rib. Moen’s sentencing will be scheduled later.

 

>>Gov. Walz, Son Gus Vote Early in St. Paul

(St. Paul, MN) – Governor Tim Walz voted early today at the Ramsey County elections office in St. Paul with first lady Gwen Walz and his son Gus, who was voting for the first time. Republican Vice Presidential candidate J.D. Vance is campaigning in Las Vegas today. After voting early, Walz turned to the presidential race. He described the last 24 hours as “a bit shaking” and thanked General John Kelly for speaking out about how dangerous Donald Trump is. Walz stated, “Donald Trump made it very clear that this is an election about Donald Trump taking full control of the military to use against his political enemies. Donald Trump taking full control of the Department of Justice to prosecute those who disagree with him, taking full control of the media on what is told and what isn’t told to the American public.” Kelly, who was chief of staff to Trump, stated that the former president lacks empathy and has no understanding or respect for the U.S. Constitution. Trump’s campaign denied Kelly’s accounts, saying that he had ‘beclowned himself with these debunked stories he has fabricated.’

 

>>MN Free School Lunch Program Serves Over 150M Meals in 1st Year

(St. Paul, MN) – The numbers are in for the first year of the Minnesota Free School Lunch program. The Walz administration announced that Minnesota schools served more than 150 million meals to students in the first year of the Free School Meals Program. The program was signed into law in 2023. All public school districts in Minnesota participate in the program. The free meals saved families approximately 1000 dollars per student.

 

>>UMN Postpones Lecture with Dr. Anthony Fauci Due to Protests

(Minneapolis, MN) — The University of Minnesota postponed Tuesday’s Distinguished Carlson Lecture featuring Dr. Anthony Fauci due to protests for Palestine on campus. 11 protestors were arrested Monday, and more students protested in support of the group on Tuesday. The school decided to reschedule the 6 p.m. lecture “given the importance of this lecture and the unexpected and complicated incidents that occurred on campus in the preceding 24 hours.” The lecture’s new date and ticket information will be shared later.

 

>>”Purple Rain: The Musical” Debut Delayed 

(Minneapolis, MN) — “Purple Rain: The Musical,” set to debut this coming spring in Minneapolis, has been pushed back months to allow for “creative development.” Hennepin Arts reports the musical will now begin on October 16th, 2025, running for one month at the State Theatre. Officials say anyone who bought tickets, subscribed, or donated has been notified of the change and will be reseated.

(Undated) – Justin Jefferson of the Vikings and Anthony Edwards of the Timberwolves are paying homage to former Minnesota star athletes Randy Moss and Kevin Garnett. JJ and Ant recreated a magazine cover photo of Moss and Garnett from 2000 wearing each other’s jerseys. Jefferson says the photo shoot with Edwards was a lot of fun, and “seeing how ANT acts in person is great; true to TV.” Jefferson wears a black number 5 Wolves jersey in the photo, as Ant sports a purple number 18 Vikes jersey. The Purple play the Rams Thursday night in LA while the Wolves face the Kings in Sacramento.

(St. Paul, MN) — Iconic rapper and producer Tyler, the Creator, will stop by St. Paul next spring for his “CHROMAKOPIA” tour. His new album of the same name is set to drop Monday, complimenting his record-winning albums “IGOR” and “CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST.” Tyler, the Creator, will perform at the Xcel Energy Center on February 4th, 2025, with openers Lil Yachty and Paris Texas. (Minneapolis, MN) — Country music star Kelsea Ballerini is bringing her three-month showcase tour to Minneapolis next year. The “KELSEA BALLERINI LIVE ON TOUR” will be at Target Center on January 24th, 2025, after her new album drops this Friday. Ballerini is a four-time Grammy nominee and County Music Association award winner. General tickets go on sale on November 1st.
