(Richfield, MN) — The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) is investigating a Richfield care facility after a patient died. 55-year-old Candace Colombus was found dead at The Villas in Richfield on October 7th. In a report to the DHS, a Hennepin County paramedic suspected the staff knew Colombus was dying and did not check on her or call for help until it was too late, putting her Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) Order into play. Paramedics report staff did not provide a DNR form until afterward, possibly forging it. The investigation is ongoing.

(Minneapolis, MN) — 11 affiliates of the Lows street gang have been charged with racketeering today. The Lows are a north Minneapolis gang and rival of the Highs and Bloods. U.S. Attorney for Minnesota Andrew Luger says those indicted on the federal charges are alleged to have been in seven shootings that resulted in 10 victims and five murders. All the suspects are detained. This is part of a larger gang crackdown by Minnesota officials, in which 41 members or affiliates have pleaded guilty or been convicted since.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A Minneapolis man accused of shooting his neighbor after months of harassment made his first court appearance Tuesday. John Sawchak is held on a $1 million bail on attempted murder charges after shooting his neighbor Davis Moturi through the neck and spine. Moturi made at least 19 police reports this past year of Sawchak’s behavior before the shooting. Minneapolis Police apologized, saying, “We failed this victim 100%.” Moturi is now recovering at home.

(Rochester, MN) — A Rochester man has received a stayed sentence, a month of home arrest, and five years of probation after a knife attack. Rochester Police arrested 44-year-old Stuart Kruger outside a home on May 23rd after he stabbed a victim in the head and back. Investigators learned after a text exchange, Kruger allegedly hit the man in the face with metal, threw him to the ground, and attacked him with a folding knife. Kruger pleaded guilty to third-degree assault by plea deal.

(Dent, MN) — Eleven head of cattle are dead after a semi-crash Tuesday night near Dent in west central Minnesota. The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office says the truck was hauling 37 head of cattle when it overturned while making a turn on County Highway 35. Deputies say holes were cut in the top and bottom of the trailer to get the cattle out. Seven died in the crash, and four had to be put down. The driver wasn’t hurt.

(Fargo, ND) — A Fargo woman has been charged with stealing over $500,000 worth of merchandise from her employer. The employer told police he suspected former employee Leymah Lopai stole $250,000 worth of collectible banknotes from his inventory. When asked by the owner, Lopai admitted she took some of the bills and sold them through an eBay account. Lopai returned some of the bills before the owner found more stolen bills listed online. A search of Lopai and her home turned up additional stolen bills and coins.

(Rochester, MN) –MnDOT officials say the plows were out near Rochester this morning but not to clear snow. A semi-truck carrying corn tipped into the ditch on the ramp to U.S. Highway 52 and spilled corn across the roadway. The incident backed up traffic until a MnDOT snowplow truck cleared a path and crews opened one lane. The Minnesota State Patrol says the semi-driver, 42-year-old Adam Schroeder of Elgin, was taken to a Rochester hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
