(White Bear Lake, MN) — The White Bear Lake Police Department is asking for the public’s help finding a missing woman. 44-year-old Suzie Kim Arndt was last seen the night of September 30th when she was discharged from a medical facility. She had indicated plans to return home but hasn’t since. Family members are concerned due to an ongoing medical condition she has. Ardnt left without money or a cell phone. She’s described as Asian, 5 feet tall, 127 pounds, with black/brown hair and brown eyes. Ardnt was last seen wearing a pink “BEBE” hoodie, black leggings, and black slip-on shoes. (Washington, D.C.) — Senator Amy Klobuchar is urging the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HSS) to address the national shortage of IV solutions caused by Hurricane Helene. This comes after a halt in production at Baxter International’s intravenous (IV) solution plant—the largest in the country—was hit by the storm in Marion, North Carolina. Many healthcare providers have postponed or canceled elective and nonemergency surgeries to stockpile supplies. Klobuchar warns another plant in Daytona Beach, Florida, could also be compromised by fast-approaching Hurricane Milton. Baxter is responsible for nearly 60% of IV fluids and dialysis solutions available to U.S. healthcare providers.

 

>>2 Jurors Selected in Madeline Kingsbury Murder Trial

(Mankato, MN) — Two jurors have been selected in the Mankato trial of Adam Fravel, the man charged with killing Madeline Kingsbury of Winona. The court will narrow the jury down to 12 and five alternate jurors for Fravel’s first- and second-degree murder trial. Kingsbury went missing on March 31st, 2023, and her body was found about two months later. Fravel was Maddie’s ex-boyfriend and the father of her two children. The jurors are two middle-aged women with no knowledge of the case.

 

>>40 Guns Detected at MSP Airport Checkpoints Through September

(Minneapolis, MN) — TSA officials say 40 firearms have been detected at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport through the first nine months of the year. A total of 53 guns were stopped at MSP security checkpoints in all of 2023. Agents intercepted just over five thousand firearms at airports across the U.S. through September 30th. The numbers are down slightly at MSP and nationally. The TSA says guns must be packed unloaded in a hard-sided case with checked baggage and declared at the airline ticket counter.

>>AG Ellison, 21 Others Urge Court to Enforce TikTok Compliance with Investigation

(St. Paul, MN) — Keith Ellison and a bipartisan group of 21 other attorney generals are urging a Tennessee court for enforcement that requires TikTok to preserve and produce evidence in an ongoing multistate investigation. This began in 2022 as a way to determine whether the social media app is violating various state consumer protection laws in a way that has fueled the ongoing mental health crisis in children and teenagers. When TikTok failed to produce the information last year, 46 states, including Minnesota, filed in support of when Tennessee sought further action. The amicus brief filed Tuesday supports TN’s efforts.

 

>>Highway 169 Bridge Struck by Dump Truck Hauling Backhoe 

(Brooklyn Park, MN) — A bridge over Highway 169 near Brooklyn Park and Maple Grove is indefinitely closed after being hit with construction equipment Monday. MnDOT says the underside of the 77th Avenue Bridge was struck by a backhoe hauled by a dump truck. In a news release, MnDOT says several concrete beams took significant damage, with concrete and debris strewn across the roadway. Officials say the inspection process will take many days to determine if it’s safe enough to reopen to traffic. 

 

>>ACS MN Grassroots Manager Awarded Professional of the Year

(Undated) – Minnesota’s Grassroots Manager for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ASC CAN) has been named this year’s Grassroots Professional of the Year for the national organization. Britta Babel was a child when her mother passed away from cancer. She says finding work with ASC CAN as an adult was “a perfect fit to both honor my mom’s memory and help support current cancer patients, survivors, and their families. Help make their voice heard too.” The award is given to a staff member whose “strong dedication to grassroots organizing furthers the achievement of advocacy mission goals.” Babel has been the state’s grassroots manager for six years.

(Wabasha, MN) — The National Eagle Center in Wabasha is offering a free eagle program on Monday for Indigenous People’s Day. Admission for the 2 p.m. outdoor eagle program at the Riverfront Amphitheater is free, though general admission to explore the Center and meet the live Eagle Ambassadors remains.
