(Anoka, MN) — Firefighters in the northwest metro are honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice 23 years ago today on September 11th. Captain Kyle McDermott of the Anoka-Champlin Fire Department says that 14 members are climbing the equivalent of the World Trade Center stairs at Life Time Fitness. They plan to climb 110 flights in full gear as a way to pay tribute to the 343 New York City firefighters who died on 9/11 while carrying fire extinguishers, hoses, and other equipment.

>> A Piece Of Glass From Ground Zero Stolen in Wayzata

(Wayzata, MN) — A piece of glass from Ground Zero has been stolen from Wayzata. Police there say the Twin Towers artifact was taken from the city’s 9/11 memorial. The item is linked to Wayzata resident Gordon “Gordy” Aamoth Jr. and was taken from near where his body was found. Authorities are offering a reward for its return, no questions asked.

(St. Paul, MN) — The Ramsey County Attorney’s Office is reviewing seven cases previously handled by its former medical examiner, Dr. Mike McGee. This decision comes after questions were raised about Dr. McGee’s findings in a 2021 murder case, as well as in approximately 70 other cases where his testimony played a significant role. Today, the RCAO held a news conference to announce their findings and stated that they have narrowed down the cases of concern to a handful. They also mentioned that their investigation is entering its final phase, which is set to begin next month.

>>Corrections Officer at Faribault State Prison Accused of Giving Drugs to Inmate

(Faribault, MN) — An employee at the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Faribault (FAIR’-uh-boh) is accused of smuggling drugs into the state prison. The Rice County Attorney’s Office says security footage from September 3rd shows corrections officer Lindsey Adams of Farmington making an exchange with an inmate in the prison gym. Prosecutors say Adams initially denied bringing drugs into the prison but later confessed to having 101 anti-depressant pills and nearly a half ounce of a rock substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. She claims she did not give drugs to the inmate. Adams is facing three felony charges.

>>Eau Claire Woman Faces DUI Charges for Intoxicated Driving with Minors in the Car

(Eau Claire, WI) — An Eau Claire woman faces charges for driving under the influence with two children under 16 years old in the vehicle. Around 2:30 this morning (WED) on I-94 near Menomonie, a Wisconsin State Patrol trooper pulled over a vehicle for speeding, hitting 93 mph in a 70-mph zone. The trooper saw the driver, 25-year-old Leah Mickelson, showed signs of impairment. An investigation and field sobriety test showed Mickelson was intoxicated, and she was arrested. Mickelson was also found to have a revoked driver’s license. She is currently in Dunn County Jail.

(Hennepin County, MN) — A 25-year-old man convicted in August of the second-degree murder of Savannah Williams, a transgender woman, has been sentenced to 30 and a half years in prison. Around 9 a.m. on November 29th, 2023, Minneapolis police responded to a report of someone not breathing. On arrival, officers found Williams dead from a gunshot wound. Investigators used surveillance video to track the suspect, Damarean Bible, to an apartment building where he was arrested. The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office reports evidence from Savannah’s murder does not prove beyond a reasonable doubt Bible was motivated by bias, but “that doesn’t mean that hate wasn’t a factor here.” Minnesota Representative and Queer Caucus member Leigh Finke said Savannah was “a beloved member of the trans and Two Spirit community who should be alive today.”

>>Long-Time Search Continues for Missing Anoka County Woman

(Anoka, MN) — The Anoka County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help finding a long-time missing woman. 36-year-old Marina Dougall was last seen in Minneapolis in September 2023 and reported missing in May 2024. Dougall frequented Anoka County and other parts of the Twin Cities metro. Investigators believe she may have been in Burnett County, Wisconsin, from September 20th-22nd, 2023, then dropped off at Roseville’s Norwood Inn. Dougall has not contacted the family since September 2023. She suffers a medical condition that could be life-threatening without medication and has a history of mental health issues and substance abuse. Dougall is described as white, 5 feet 9 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
