(McGregor, MN) — A tips hotline and email address have been set up for information involving an autistic and type-one diabetic woman who went missing earlier this month. 23-year-old Tonya Yarmakov went missing on September 4th after her family went fishing on a lake in Savanna Portage State Park in McGregor, about 50 miles west of Duluth. Her family says they left her alone on the dock, and she ran off, ultimately going missing. Yarmakov was last seen wearing a rainbow tie-dye t-shirt, gym shorts, black shoes, and black headphones. (Bayport, MN) — Officials say nine staff at the Stillwater prison were sent to the hospital today after being exposed to unknown substances in two separate incidents. The Department of Corrections says an officer responding to a man smoking in his cell experienced an adverse reaction that included light-headedness, nausea, and an increased heart rate. Six additional staff began feeling ill and five of them were hospitalized. The DOC says another incarcerated man threw a container of an unknown substance that landed near staff and three more workers were taken to the hospital. All nine were treated and released. Investigators suspect the first man was smoking a synthetic cannabinoid.

(Hugo, MN) — The 45-year-old man who led police on an extensive manhunt through Hugo Tuesday has been charged with the second-degree murder of his mother. Law enforcement searched for Trevor Wunderlich for nearly 17 hours before arresting him in Washington County around 11 a.m. This came after a 911 call around 6 p.m. Monday with noises of an assault in the background. Officers went to the home to find 68-year-old Charlene Wunderlich on the floor as Trevor sat beside her. Trevor fled, and Charlene told police he had attacked her. She then lost consciousness and was later pronounced dead at a hospital. Trevor remains in custody on a $3 million unconditional bail and is expected in court on October 24th.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A 67-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the 1984 murder of a man. As part of a plea deal, Matthew Brown pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. Minneapolis police responded to an apartment the morning of July 19th, 1984, finding two injured women who had run out of an apartment. The women told police a man had broken into their apartment and attacked them and a man with a knife. Officers found Robert Miller had been stabbed to death inside the apartment. The case went cold, but DNA evidence eventually linked Brown to the case.

(Carlton, MN) — A Grand Lake man is dead after crashing his pickup truck into a Carlton laundromat Wednesday. Carlton County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Carlton Laundry around 8:30 p.m., learning a pickup truck heading east went off the road and hit the building. The driver, 48-year-old Adam Forsythe, was brought to a hospital, where he died. No one in the laundromat was injured. Investigators believe impairment may have been a factor.

(Minneapolis, MN) — A convicted felon has been sentenced to 20 months in federal prison for his role in an illegal firearm straw-purchasing conspiracy. Court documents say on May 26th, 2023, 36-year-old Donald Armstrong Jr. and a co-conspirator went to a Federal Firearms Licensee in Walker, where his partner bought a semi-automatic Glock with the intent to give it to Armstrong. Armstrong’s co-conspirator lied when filling out the ATF form, certifying he was the actual buyer/transferee. On June 14th, 2023, a search warrant executed on Armstrong’s residence seized 14 firearms, including the Glock bought in May. Armstrong pleaded guilty on April 16th.

(St. Paul, MN) — Governor Tim Walz is authorizing state emergency assistance to six additional Minnesota counties that suffered storm and flood damage this summer. State officials say Aitkin and Crow Wing counties were hit by tornadoes on June 12th and Beltrami, Big Stone, and Todd counties experienced significant severe storm damage between July 31st and August. The Marshall County area in northwest Minnesota had major flooding in late July.

DEED Commissioner Matt Varilek says, “We’ve seen net job gains in nine out of the last 12 months. And our job growth over the year is just slightly off the national pace.” Minnesota’s unemployment rate increased slightly to 3.3%, and the labor force grew flat over the month.
