(Superior, WI) — Authorities are investigating the death of a 53-year-old man found early Tuesday in Superior, Wisconsin. Police say the man was lying in the road next to a bicycle and was unresponsive when officers arrived. Despite CPR efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The reporting driver told police they swerved to avoid the bike but struck it due to dark and foggy conditions. Then, he found the man in the road. No signs of impairment were found. The investigation is ongoing.

 

>>Suspect Arrested in Minneapolis Mass Shooting

(Minneapolis, MN) — A man is in custody for a mass shooting in Minneapolis last month that left one man dead and six others injured. Police say 24-year-old Trayveion Alvin Green is in connection with the August 26th shooting near a Minneapolis Catholic high school. Officers found Green late Sunday and booked him into Hennepin County Jail. He’s charged with seven counts of second-degree murder. Two others were previously charged with aiding an offender. Police Chief Brian O’Hara says the shooter fired around 30 rounds before getting in a vehicle and fleeing the scene.

 

>>Dogs Cause Motorcycle Crash Near Motley

(Motley, Township) — A man was hurt when he crashed his motorcycle in Morrison County on Tuesday afternoon. The sheriff’s office says it happened east, one mile south of Motley. 19-year-old Brian Vorbeck was traveling westbound when two dogs ran onto the road, causing him to lose control and crash. Family members were able to bring Vorbeck to the hospital in Staples with unknown injuries. The sheriff’s office says Vorbeck was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

(Denver, CO) – Minnesota-based Xcel Energy has agreed to pay $640 million to settle claims related to the 2021 Marshall Fire in Boulder County, Colorado, which killed two people and destroyed more than 1,000 homes. Despite the settlement, the company continues to deny that its equipment caused the fire. President and CEO Bob Frenzel says the agreement reflects Xcel’s commitment to the communities it serves. In 2023, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office concluded the fire was sparked by embers from the Twelve Tribes community and a sparking power line owned by Xcel Energy. The company disputes its role in the second ignition source.

(St. Paul, MN) – After a re-examination of evidence, a man who spent 26 years behind bars for a murder conviction is set to be released. The Minnesota Pardons Board voted today to commute the sentence of Brian Pippitt, who has long maintained his innocence in the 1998 killing of 84-year-old Evelyn Malin, a convenience store owner in Aitkin County near McGregor. Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison voted in favor of Pippitt’s release, while State Supreme Court Justice Natalie Hudson opposed the decision, expressing concern about the precedent it might set for future cases. Pippitt has consistently denied involvement in her death.

 

>>First Defendant Charged in Autism Fraud Scheme

(Minneapolis, MN) — Federal prosecutors have charged 28-year-old Asha Farhan Hassan in a $14 million autism fraud scheme. Investigators say Hassan submitted fake treatment claims through her company, Smart Therapy, and also took part in the 250 million dollar Feeding Our Future fraud scheme during the pandemic. DHS (Department of Human Services) confirms it began investigating Smart Therapy last year and halted payments after search warrants were served. Court documents allege Hassan paid kickbacks to families, billed Medicaid for services never provided, and used taxpayer money to buy real estate in Kenya. The agency says it has since tightened oversight of autism services, including billing limits, staff screening, and a new licensing system set to launch in 2026.

Stops this time included Big Stone, Olmsted, Rice, and Wabasha counties. Klobuchar says she heard firsthand about the concerns of Minnesotans when it comes to rising costs and the impact of tariffs on the rural economy. Every year, Klobuchar visits all 87 counties in Minnesota.

 

>>CenterPoint Invests in Minnesota-Made Renewable Natural Gas

(Minneapolis, MN) — CenterPoint Energy is partnering with Vanguard Renewables to bring locally produced renewable natural gas to Minnesota customers. The gas will be generated from food and farm waste at a new facility near Litchfield in Meeker County. Officials say the project supports year-round energy needs while reducing greenhouse gas emissions. CenterPoint says this is part of its five-year innovation plan under Minnesota’s Natural Gas Innovation Act, aiming to cut carbon emissions by up to 30% by 2035.

(Eagan, MN) — Minnesota Vikings cornerback Isaiah Rodgers is being honored as the NFC Player of the Week. Rodgers had an 87-yard interception for a touchdown and forced and recovered a fumble for a 66-yard score in Minnesota’s 48-10 win over the Bengals. He also forced another fumble in the first half. The Purple signed Rodgers as a free agent in March after he won the Super Bowl with the Eagles. The Vikings play Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers on Sunday in Dublin, Ireland.
