>>Governor and DFL Leaders Announce Special Session Proposals

(St. Paul, MN) – Governor Tim Walz and DFL legislative leaders have released their proposals for a special session focused on gun violence and school safety. The Democratic leaders propose specific action on guns as well as bipartisan proposals on school safety, additional mental health resources, and new funding for law enforcement. Governor Walz issued a statement saying, “This proposal meets the expectations that Minnesotans have for their elected leaders – that we respond to threats to public safety and take direct action on guns.” Republicans have maintained that guns are not the issue, and their proposal for the special session includes more funding for mental health services and making our schools and communities safer.

(St. Paul, MN) – Following Governor Walz’s and DFL leaders’ announced plan for the special session on gun violence, Senate Republican Leader Mark Johnson of East Grand Forks sent his own statement. Johnson says, “If Governor Walz wants a special session, which only he can do, Senate Republicans will be there to do the important work to keep our kids and communities safe.” Johnson added, “Democrats and Governor Walz are avoiding the regular committee process that invites public scrutiny and stakeholder input.” Johnson’s office states that a meeting between the governor and leaders from both sides broke down this morning after approximately ten minutes, and the meeting concluded.

>>Former State Representative Announces Campaign for Capitol Seat

(St. Cloud, MN) – Former DFL State Representative Zachary Dorholt has announced he’s running for his old position in St. Paul. Dorholt announced his campaign for House District 14B, which includes portions of St. Cloud. Dorholt held the House seat from 2013 to 2014 before losing the next election. He successfully won a spot on the St. Cloud Area School Board in 2018. The race in District 14B is for an open seat, as current DFL Representative Dan Wolgamott has announced he won’t seek re-election and instead will run for State Auditor.

(Undated) — The U.S.D.A. (Department of Agriculture) Forest Service is granting 175 thousand dollars to Lake of the Woods County to reduce wildfire risk to communities. This is part of an over 200 million dollar investment in 58 projects across 22 states and two tribes nationwide. Officials say the money will be used to update the Lake of the Woods Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP).

(Minneapolis, MN) — M-N Cup is crowning nine division winners in its 2025 statewide startup competition at the University of Minnesota. The finalists were chosen from over 35 hundred entrepreneurs and will compete for a $50,000 grand prize at the Grand Finale on Monday (10/6). Winners include startups focused on clean energy, health tech, education, and youth innovation. The M-N Cup has awarded more than 5.8 million dollars in prizes since 2005 to support Minnesota’s early-stage ventures.

(Brooklyn Park, MN) — A Brooklyn Park man is pleading guilty to the murder of his cousin, Marcus Williams Junior. Prosecutors say 29-year-old Curtis Jackson pleaded guilty Monday to one count of second-degree intentional murder from the April 2024 killing. Under plea terms, he will be sentenced to between 24.5 years and 30.5 years in prison. Jackson’s sentencing is scheduled for November 3rd (9 a.m.).

(Brooklyn Park, MN) — A missing, endangered man from Brooklyn Park is missing. Police say 26-year-old Yedidiya Kereta was last seen in the city on Sunday around 4 p.m. He is described as Black, six feet tall, 230 pounds, with black hair and eyes. Kereta was last seen wearing shorts and a t-shirt.
