The one-million dollars the Minnesota Legislature and Governor Tim Walz have already approved for emergency response to the latest avian flu outbreak might not be enough. Amber Glaeser with Minnesota Farm Bureau Federation says it’s yet to be seen what resources will be necessary, but “more legislative help is needed. I think we’ve got some time to do that, and I think what we saw from the legislature with their support with this first million dollars is that they’re willing to provide those resources as they’re needed.”
Additional money is possible as part of a drought relief package the Minnesota House and Senate will negotiate after the spring break. Monday’s numbers showed 28 sites with avian flu outbreaks in 14 Minnesota counties and over 1.3 million birds lost.
