The state Pollution Control Agency has issued an air quality alert from noon until 8 p-m tonight for eastern and central Minnesota, including Saint Cloud, the Twin Cities, Hinckley and the Mille Lacs Tribal Nation. Officials say temperatures near 90 degrees, wildfire smoke from the west and sunny skies will cause elevated ozone and fine-particle levels in the air that could be unhealthy for sensitive groups. That includes people with respiratory conditions, children and teens, and people of all ages doing extended or heavy physical activity. The M-P-C-A says the worst conditions are expected in the afternoon and early evening across the Twin Cities metro area into central Minnesota, with ozone levels decreasing after the sun sets but fine particle levels will still be elevated.
