An Aitkin County man has a first court appearance today, charged with second-degree murder in the death of his infant daughter last month. Prosecutors say 33-year-old John Douglas Peterson of Palisade first told them when he was getting a bottle ready, the child rolled out of his arm, hit her head on the sink and then fell to the floor. Investigators say they confronted Peterson with results of a medical evaluation showing his explanation did not match the infant’s significant injuries — and Peterson then admitted he lost his temper because the child was fussing, and threw the girl like a basketball about 12 feet into the kitchen, where she landed on her back and hit the bottom of the cupboards with her head.
