The Albert Lea area in southeastern Minnesota will be the site of the 2019 Governor’s Fishing Opener. The 72nd annual event is scheduled for May 9th through 12th next year on Fountain Lake, one of the largest in the area. The announcement came just hours after the 71st Governor’s Fishing Opener in the Willmar area. Governor Dayton caught three bass on Green Lake in Spicer Saturday morning. The Albert Lea area will be hosting the event for the first time. Dayton says Fountain Lake offers terrific fishing and other great recreational opportunities. The 521-acre lake has several bays and 20 species of fish including bass, northern, walleye, crappie and yellow perch.
