The American Red Cross in Minnesota is making an emergency call for blood and platelet donations. Spokeswoman Sue Thesenga says that’s because “during the summer months, people are busy especially around holiday weekends or during the holiday week.” She says the blood inventory is at a critical level right now and that has prompted the need for the emergency call. Thesenga says “about 38% of the population is eligible to donate, but yet less than 10% actually do.” And she says right now the Red Cross has less than a five-day blood supply on hand. Anyone interested in donating blood or platelets is urged to visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.
