House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she doesn’t think statements made by Minnesota Democrat Ilhan Omar were meant to be anti-Semitic. And Minnesota Attorney General, Keith Ellison whose Congressional seat Omar took over, says there is a lot of scrutiny on Omar and as a freshman in Congress “she has very little room to make mistakes, and again, some lessons aren’t learned on the first try, but I still think that she is a fair-minded person who rejects bigotry of all kinds.” Ellison says “it’s important for [Omar] to really dig into and listen to people who have really gone through the experiences that they’ve gone through, particularly people in the Jewish community who have experienced anti-Semitism.” Omar recently accused pro-Israel advocates of pushing “allegiance to a foreign country.” A U-S House resolution condemning hate speech will not mention Omar’s name.
