Anti-gun violence groups rally in the State Capitol Rotunda this afternoon (2pm), urging lawmakers to vote against bills allowing concealed-carry without a permit, and proposed changes to Minnesota’s self-defense laws. It comes as students in Minnesota and around the nation walk out of class to march against gun violence, demanding universal background checks and other laws. State House Speaker, Republican Kurt Daudt, says the discussion will be, do those measures work, and is that really the problem? Daudt says, “I haven’t really had somebody bring forward a bill that would eliminate completely these sorts of things from happening, right?”
Governor Mark Dayton, who supports universal background checks, acknowledges they won’t solve the whole problem, but asks, “Does that mean we do nothing, because we can’t do everything?”)
