Boaters at landings on the Saint Croix River this weekend could encounter inspectors looking for invasive species piggybacking on their watercraft, but Christine Hokkala-Kuhns with the D-N-R says the main purpose is education. She says, “If you go through the inspection process and encounter an inspector, the inspector is going to educate you about aquatic invasive species laws, let you know if you possibly have a violation, what you can do in the future to avoid that, how we can correct it.”
The Saint Croix River Association is teaming up with the Department of Natural Resources in both Minnesota and Wisconsin for the effort at several landings from Osceola, Wisconsin downstream to Afton Bluffs Regional Park.
