The Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis has filed a reorganization plan in bankruptcy court that church officials say is an “important step” toward paying a record 210 million dollars to victims of clergy sex abuse. The settlement agreement with a group representing priest sex abuse survivors was announced last month and a court hearing is set for August 9th. Victims’ attorney Mike Finnegan says it’s “an important day for sexual abuse survivors” and “another step toward resolution.” Of the 210-million-dollar settlement, it’s expected about 170 million will be paid by insurance companies and the rest by the archdiocese and individual parishes.
