A court hearing is this morning on criminal charges against the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis resulting from a priest sex-abuse case. It is the first time an archdiocese in the U-S has been charged with such an offense and it comes after former priest Curtis Wehmeyer (WAY-meyer) was convicted of sexually abusing two sons of a parishioner in 2010. Ramsey County Attorney John Choi says under interim leadership the archdiocese “has begun to demonstrate a spirit of reform” — but his office remains “steadfastly committed” to holding the archdiocese accountable for contributing to the harm done to three victims, and “protecting children going forward by ensuring the Archdiocese takes corrective and preventive measures.”
