The U-S Army Corps of Engineers is keeping a close eye on reservoir levels, after heavy rains in many areas of Minnesota have added to levels already high from the spring snowmelt. Spokesman Patrick Loch says, “We certainly monitor the forecast, but it’s important to know we manage our reservoirs for the water that’s already on the ground. So we’re not going to make any actions until the conditions are real.”
The Corps announced Tuesday it’s increasing outflows from the Lac Qui Parle Reservoir in west central Minnesota after heavy rains caused the reservoir’s pool elevation to rise. Corps officials say they’re also working with the National Weather Service to update river water-level forecasts at Montevideo and downstream on the Minnesota River.
