The State Board of Teaching is not following the law, a Minneapolis attorney told state lawmakers Thursday as he described legal actions by out-of-state teachers trying to get licensed in Minnesota. Rhyddid (REETH-id) Watkins says he has many special education teachers who would be “more than willing” to come and teach in Greater Minnesota but they can’t get licensed. “It’s disgusting,” Watkins says. Board of Teaching Executive Director Erin Doan responds there’s a breakdown in communication between stakeholders. Doan told lawmakers “the system is not structured to be easy to navigate, and there are easy fixes that are available and at our disposal.”
