Governor Mark Dayton’s court challenge to Enbridge’s Line 3 pipeline — two weeks before leaving office — has people wondering what his successor will do. Governor-elect Tim Walz said before the election he was satisfied with an earlier Public Utilities Commission decision to let Line 3 move forward, and would not say Friday whether he’ll continue the court case Dayton has started. Winona LaDuke with Honor the Earth says he should. “Once he understands fully these issues of liability and markets, I’m sure that Governor Walz will see that future jobs are not gonna be based on Enbridge’s promises,” LaDuke says.
But Republican Representative Dan Fabian from Roseau says Dayton in his last days in office is trying to derail the Line 3 pipeline — and says he spoke to Governor-elect Walz and hopes he’ll “do the right thing” and drop the appeal as soon as he’s sworn in next month.”
