State lawmakers appear poised for the perennial fight over legalizing firecrackers and aerial fireworks in Minnesota, after a hearing Wednesday in the run-up to the 2016 legislative session. State Fire Marshal Bruce West says since some fireworks were legalized in 2002, fireworks-related injuries in Minnesota have risen 117 percent. Vernon Center Representative Tony Cornish responds he’d like to know how many injuries there are in Minnesota from football, skateboarding, horse-riding and so on. Cornish says “there’s so many more activities that create injuries or deaths than fireworks, but yet we’re picking on fireworks.”
