The Better Business Bureau (BBB)of Minnesota is warning of a new scam making the rounds. It’s been called the “can you hear me” scam–and it’s just what it sounds like. The BBB’s Dan Hendrickson says victims receive “a recorded call from someone who provides and introduction and then they ask, “Can you hear me now”, so it sounds like a real person, but it’s not, so when you say “yes” basically the caller has what they need.” Hendrickson says once you say “yes” the scammer records your voice and can use that to have you billed for services you didn’t want, or won’t receive. He says if you get a call like this–hang up the phone and report the call to the local authorities and the BBB.
