A statewide mail-in ballot for the upcoming elections is the purpose of a bill that continues moving forward in the Democrat-controlled Minnesota House but faces significant opposition in the Republican-led Senate. Sponsor, D-F-L Representative Raymond Dehn from Minneapolis says, “If this pandemic and the virus continues to linger through the summer and we do get that second wave in the fall, a lot of people aren’t gonna want to risk their health to go vote.”
But Republican Senator Mary Kiffmeyer from Big Lake contends Minnesota can safely conduct the elections without changing current law, through a combination of absentee ballots and physical polling locations.
