A bill that would legalize so-called “Daily Fantasy Sports” in Minnesota remains alive in the Minnesota House after clearing a key committee today. Anne Krisnik with the Joint Religious Legislative Coalition told lawmakers that hard-working families are hurt by gambling, and there’s particular concern about young people: “How computer-savvy they are, that we’re looking at something now that would allow them to engage in this gambling on a daily basis: at school, at home, at church — hate to say that.”
State law essentially prohibits wagering money on games purely of chance. Backers of Daily Fantasy Sports argue it’s primarily a game of skill because winners are those who choose teams of virtual athletes that outperform an opponent’s team.
