A bill that would prevent the U-of-M from using tissue from aborted fetuses for research cleared a committee in the Republican-controlled Minnesota House today (Thurs) after emotional debate. Cottage Grove Democrat Dan Schoen says let research continue, noting his stepfather has Parkinson’s. “Toughest guy I knew,” says Schoen. “And to see him today… I tell ya’, I’ll fight for him every day, and the potential for a cure in the future.” A different view from Mountain Lake Republican Rod Hamilton, who has M-S but says “I don’t want my health to improve at the expense of another life, especially when they don’t have a say in the matter.” The bill will likely have a difficult time passing the Democrat-controlled Minnesota Senate.
