A bill to name a section of Highway 95 after slain Corrections Officer Joseph Gomm is moving forward in the Minnesota House. Fellow Officer Tony Meddelin told lawmakers before today’s vote in committee, “It was the darkest day in the history of our department…. I got to be with Joe when he exited this world.”
Prosecutors say an inmate, 42-year-old Edward Muhammad Johnson, assaulted Gomm with a hammer in a shop area of Stillwater Prison. Johnson is charged with first-degree premeditated murder.
