The judge in child custody and divorce cases would have to inform the parties of alternatives for resolving their dispute — that under a bill which unanimously passed the Minnesota House Monday. Sponsor, Chanhassen Republican Cindy Pugh says the purpose is simply to educate people and inform them they have an option to use mediation. Pugh says many people are representing themselves in court in custody and divorce proceedings because they can’t afford attorney’s fees, and this would provide them another option.
