State Representative Peggy Scott, a Republican from Andover, says she’ll introduce a bill to prohibit collecting information on voters’ political party choice in March 3rd “Super Tuesday” presidential primary. Scott says, “There’s plenty of data out there on each of us, unfortunately. But I felt strongly, being an advocate for people’s private information and being a guardian of that, I just felt strongly that I needed to do something on this issue.”
Minnesota Democratic Party Chairman Ken Martin says he and Representative Scott share the same goal, but her bill would put the state Democratic and Republican parties in violation of their national parties’ rules. Martin says Democrats and Republicans can find common ground. But GOP Senator Mary Kiffmeyer from Big Lake says “voting in the primary has already started and we can’t change the rules now.”
