About 350 people turned out Wednesday night at the Cathedral of Saint Paul for a special “Blue Mass” for police officers and other emergency responders. It was on the same day that two officers were fatally shot in Des Moines, Iowa. Archbishop Bernard Hebda said it’s important that people pray for officers and responders, “that they might make good decisions; that they might be blessed with good discernment; that they might help us to truly build a community that reflects the heavenly kingdom that is our hope.” Hebda added, “We’re blessed… with men and women who are truly willing to go the extra mile so that we might have a safe community, so that we might be able to pursue the common good together.”
