Body camera video from the officer who shot and seriously wounded two dogs in the backyard of a north Minneapolis home shows the first animal slowly walking and wagging its tail before being shot, then the second dog running straight at the officer before also being shot. Right after, Officer Michael Mays talked with the owner’s daughter, Courtney Livingston, who choked back tears as she said, “I put in the wrong alarm code, I guess, and my Mom was supposed to call you guys. So I figured she called you guys. I didn’t know you guys were coming.” Mays responded, “Hey, I’m gonna sit there and say, sorry now, ’cause I don’t like shooting no dogs. I love dogs and so, it’s unfortunate.”
The Minneapolis Police Department hasn’t taken a position on Mays’ actions. The owner of the dogs and her attorney want the officer prosecuted, disciplined and possibly even fired.
