The Minneapolis City Council today unanimously approved a $27 million settlement with the family of George Floyd. $500,000 is set to go to the community around 38th Chicago–where Floyd was killed. The council went into a closed session this morning for the vote. Floyd was killed on May 25th in south Minneapolis after being detained by Minneapolis police, including one officer, Derek Chauvin. Chauvin is on currently trial on charges of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. Three other officers involved are set to be tried in August.
