A Canadian teen nicknamed “The Butterfly Boy” because of a rare and severe skin disease died Wednesday in Minneapolis. 17-year-old Jonathan Pitre had two experimental transplants at the U-of-M to try to counteract the effects of E-B, a painful and incurable disorder that causes skin to tear and blister. His mother said in a Facebook post that her son “tirelessly fought to raise awareness for this horrific disease.” The University is a world leader in this kind of transplant.
