Buxton
MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota Twins center fielder Byron Buxton left Thursday’s game against the Oakland Athletics after hitting the wall awkwardly while making the final out of the top of the fifth inning.
Buxton caught the ball just as his back hit the wall in front of the bullpens in left-center field. The collision knocked off the glasses and hat for Buxton, who bent over for a few moments before running off the field under his own power.
Max Kepler entered the game the next time Minnesota took the field, with Danny Santana moving to left field and Eddie Rosario sliding over to center.
The team announced that Buxton was removed from the contest for precautionary reasons and will be re-evaluated on Friday. Minnesota lost the game, 8-5.
Buxton is hitting .154 this season but has provided spectacular defense. Buxton also hit the wall earlier in the game when he wasn’t able to corral a line drive off the bat of Stephen Vogt. Buxton landed at the base of the bullpen door, which swung open.
