It will be catch-and-release only for walleye on Mille Lacs Lake and anglers will only be allowed to use artificial bait. Linda Eno with Twin Pines Resort in Garrison says given the way Mille Lacs has been managed, the new regulations are probably the best they can do. She says they’re hoping the lake will draw anglers looking for bass and northern pike, but their business will still be hurt because people come to Mille Lacs for walleye, “You can’t fill a Twins stadium with soccer fans.” The fishing opener is May 14th.
