A central Minnesota man is dead following a water emergency on Lake Vermilion in the Greenwood Bay area on Tuesday night. A resident observed 58-year-old Darrell Pfannenstein of St. Joseph struggling to get back on his jet ski. The bystander went over in his boat offered assistance but Pfannenstein declined. A short time later the resident noticed the man walking in the water towards shore and decided once again to boat over to offer assistance. When he approached he noticed Pfannenstein who was wearing a life jacket floating face down and unresponsive in the water. Despite life-saving measures, Pfannenstein was pronounced dead.
