Charges are pending against three men as authorities continue their investigation into the kidnapping and assault of Alexandria teen Jasmine Block. She was left tied up in a Grant County corn field Tuesday while the suspects got lunch. Police Chief Richard Wyffels says the men may have left clues that could help with the case. Investigators are attempting to identify specific cornfields through which the suspects drove with Block. They are also hoping to locate Block’s shoes and pants, which were lost after she escaped and swam across Thompson Lake for help. Investigators are asking farmers in Pope, Grant and Douglas counties to check their corn fields for damage associated with vehicles driving through them, and for anglers at Thompson Lake to report any clothing on the shoreline or floating on the water.
Wyffels was asked if there are other victims in the area. “We sure hope not,” he said. “As a matter of fact, I’m not even familiar with another missing or abducted case in the area. We don’t believe that there are other victims that are part of their story right now, and we also — obviously they’re in custody — we don’t believe that the public as a whole is at any risk.”
