The first-ever Minneapolis Comedy Festival is in full swing through Sunday. One of the main attractions is a performance from comedy legend Bob Newhart. Newhart’s decades-long run of successes started in 1960 with the Grammy-winning stand-up album “The Button Down Mind of Bob Newhart” and continued through two hugely successful tv shows in the 70s and 80s–“The Bob Newhart Show” and “Newhart”. More recently, Newhart appeared in the modern holiday classic film Elf–and took home his first Emmy in 2013 for a guest spot on Big Bang Theory. MNN’s Scott Peterson recently chatted with Newhart about stand-up, Minneapolis’ key role in his early career and much more ahead of Newhart’s Friday appearance at the Orpheum Theatre.
