U.S. Rep Collin Peterson (D-MN7)

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack
With the election just over three weeks away, Democratic Congressman Collin Peterson says neither Donald Trump nor Hillary Clinton have said much about agriculture. Peterson says regulations are among the biggest problem farmers have had to fight off and that issue “clearly goes to Trump, because he wants to roll back some of this, and Hillary Clinton has been in favor of moving ahead with some of the Obama stuff.” Clinton supporter, U-S Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack responds Clinton is the only candidate with a plan to continue revitalizing the rural economy. Vilsak says Clinton’s plan “supports production agriculture,… recognizes the challenge we have with attracting young people. She’s got a very aggressive beginning farmer program.”
Peterson says, “One of the big disappointments I’ve had with Hillary has been that a week or two ago she came out in favor of this Waters of the U-S, and that is gonna be a disaster.” Vilsack responds farmers need certainty and clarity on the new regulations and adds, “I’m pretty confident that Secretary Clinton understands that and will make sure that E-P-A works with, not necessarily against, producers.”
