A review by the Dayton administration found 266 complaints of sexual harassment in state agencies over the past six years and roughly half were substantiated by investigations. The Corrections Department topped the list with 73 complaints, followed by Human Services with 45, then MN-DOT (33), Public Safety (22) and the D-N-R (20). Management and Budget Commissioner Myron Frans says, “The work environment in some agencies are more challenging. Some of them are more male-dominated than others, and that in and of itself we know is a problem that we have to address.”
Officials say sex harassment complaint numbers must be interpreted with caution. State agencies vary widely in the number of employees…. the number of complaints doesn’t necessarily correlate to actual incidents of sex harassment for many reasons… and officials say implementation of the state’s sex harassment policy varies between agencies.
