Officials say there’s a new scam popping up across Minnesota that keys off the state Health Department’s efforts to locate recent contacts of those diagnosed with COVID-19. The Health Department’s Kris Ehresmann says the scammer’s call is plausible at first: they explain the situation and tell the intended victim that they must be tested for COVID. But Ehresmann says, “The next step is *not* what you should expect. They asked this individual for a credit card number so that they could send him a testing kit.”
Ehresmann says health officials would never ask for money or a credit card number.
