COVID vaccinations begin at MN Veterans Homes in Silver Bay, Fergus Falls

December 30, 2020 By Bill Werner

Residents and staff at the Minnesota Veterans Homes in Fergus Falls and Silver Bay are getting their first COVID vaccinations today, with a second round of vaccinations tomorrow at the Minneapolis Vets Home, and in Luverne next Monday (1/4/21). State Veterans Affairs Deputy Commissioner Douglas Hughes says they’re looking forward to the time when everyone can take off their masks and other P-P-E. “It’ll really be a gratifying day when we can just go back to… taking care of veterans the way we used to. We’re really looking forward to that day,” he says.

Hughes says they hope close to 90 percent of veterans home residents will receive voluntary vaccinations. They’re also voluntary for staff and Hughes indicates the goal is to exceed the 70-percent mark.
