It’s suddenly a crowded field in the race for U-S House in Minnesota’s 5th District (Minneapolis and inner suburbs), after Congressman Keith Ellison announced Tuesday he’s running for attorney general, prompted by current A-G Lori Swanson running for governor. State Representative Ilhan Omar, the first Somali-American state legislator in the U-S, is running for Ellison’s U-S House seat. Omar says, “I know first-hand what the lives of those young people right now that are sitting in detention camps are feeling. I know what the mothers and the fathers who are sending their kids into safety feel.” Also running in the August 14th D-F-L primary: Former House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher, state Senator Patricia Torres Ray, state Senator Bobby Joe Champion, and Kim Ellison — Congressman Ellison’s former wife.
